Bus Stop 7: Kaiser Permanente

Kaiser Permanente is the largest integrated managed care company in the United States. It’s made up of three distinct but interdependent entities: the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and its regional operating subsidiaries; Kaiser Foundation Hospitals; and the regional Permanente Medical Groups. Kaiser Permanente has 9.1 million health plan members, and makes real efforts to take all of them to the new reality in healthcare.

Why are we stopping here?

Kaiser Permanente inspires staff members across the organization to imagine the future of healthcare… and gives them tools to create it. Via their Garfield Innovation Center, they involve creative innovators in simulations, technology testing, prototyping, and product evaluations. Successful assets are then brought to the patients via their network of hospitals and daycare clinics. The final goal is to improve people’s lives at a reduced cost by constantly rethinking daily practices and implementing new tactics to prepare for the future.

Interesting to know: Kaiser Permanente saw over 10 million patients by e-visit in 2013 and expects to see more patients through telehealth than in person in 2016! They do not take the threat of digital lightly…

Another ‘traditional’ healthcare company on the move. Let’s find out how they drop everything that is called ‘traditional’.
